The Cart Gets Done

Today our coffee carts were due. We had a hard deadline of noon to have the renders turned in, and at 12:00 on the dot we started critiques. The critiques are rather intimidating. The instructors place our work up on the big projector for the whole world to see while they review them and tell us what we did right and wrong. This is our second critique so it wasn’t quite as terrifying, but with this being our first major project it was still scary :) I was glad that my last name puts me nearly at the end of the list tobe done. I was glad. Then Tom announced that we were going through the list backwards this time. Doh!

Overall things seemed to go very well and despite all the time I spent fussing over things, the only thing the instructors called me out on was that my handles seemed a tad too big. The length of the handle sticking out from the wood is a tad too long. I thing this was because I didin’t take the bend into account when I modeled it so my handles stuck out by a tad extra because of those bends. Ooops! Other than that they liked what they saw. Tom even mentioned on a couple of my renders how I had good lighting and composition. Yeah its a bit of tooting my own horn there, but it made me feel good.

Now that this project is completed, all the renders from the coffee cart can be found in my Student Gallery. In there you can see everything from the very first horrible renders all the way up to the ones that I turned in for grade today.

So what’s next? Our next project is called Loading Dock and is designed to teach us even more about texturing. We will be given a scene of a building and loading dock area, and it will be our job to texture it as realisticly as possible. This will be our introduction to the wonderful world of UV mapping.
